Buckle up football fans, Week 1 of the 2024 NFL season did not disappoint. From shocking upsets to dominant performances, here's your rundown of all the action.
1. Chiefs 27, Ravens 20
Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs started off their title defense with a thrilling win against Lamar Jackson’s Ravens. Baltimore kept it close with Isaiah Likely dominant performance, but Mahomes’ magic, along with Xavier Worthy and Rashee Rice's unstoppable play, proved to be too much. A pivotal overturned TD for Isaiah Likely (by a toenail) sealed the Ravens’ fate.
2. Eagles 34, Packers 29
Saquon Barkley and the Eagles flew high against Green Bay in an offensive showcase. The new addition in Saquon already has positive ROI, Saquon went for 3 tuddys and looked unstoppable, while the Packers' Jordan Love showed flashes of brilliance but couldn't quite keep pace. Love also exited the game with a MCL imjury and will be out for 3-6 weeks.
3. Bills 34, Cardinals 28
Josh Allen and the Bills outdueled the Cardinals in a high-scoring affair. Allen threw for two touchdowns and ran for two, including a game-winner. Kyler Murray and the Cardinals got off to a decent start but couldn't finish with the lead. Marvin Harrison also only had 1 target which is a major problem for the Cardinals.
4. Bears 24, Titans 17
Chicago’s revamped offense with Caleb williams at the helm looked horrible but they're defensive and special teams plays led to a solid win over the Titans. Will levis was contained for the most part and Calvin ridley seemed to have disappeared. Titans are getting use to their new weapons and look like they could be strong if theings start to click.
5. Steelers 18, Falcons 10
A defensive battle saw Pittsburgh squeeze out a gritty win. T.J. Watt made life miserable for the Falcons’ O-line, recording 1 sack, 2 TFL's, and a fumble recovery. If the refs were not corrupt TJ would've added 2 more sacks 1 more fumble recovery and a forced fumble. Truly dominant performance by TJ and the Steelers defence racking up 3 takeaways against Kirk Cousins.
6. Patriots 16, Bengals 10
Jerod Mayo's squad stifled Joe Burrow and the Bengals in a low-scoring slugfest. Jacoby Brissett did just enough, but the star of the show was the Patriots’ defense, holding the high-powered Bengals’ attack to just 10 points. Burrow and the bengals offense looked very very bad.
7. Texans 29, Colts 27
In a back-and-forth game, the Texans edged out the Colts in one of the most exciting matchups of Week 1. 2nd year QB C.J. Stroud looked impressive with his new weapons, while Anthony Richardson gave Colts fans hope despite the loss.
8. Saints 47, Panthers 10
This was a rout from start to finish. Derek Carr and the Saints’ offense steamrolled the Panthers, while their defense forced three turnovers, setting the tone early. Bryce Young had a rough showing, struggling to get anything going.
9. Vikings 28, Giants 6
The Vikings asserted their dominance over the Giants in a one-sided affair. Sam Darnold threw for 208 yards and two touchdowns, while New York’s offense failed to find any rhythm, managing just a single touchdown all game. Daniel Jones might be the worst QB in the NFL and New York HATES him right now, it's hilarious. Fan's waited until he came out of the stadium to go to his car just to boo him.
10. Cowboys 33, Browns 17
Dallas looked sharp on both sides of the ball, handling Cleveland with ease. Dak Prescott had no turnovers, and Micah Parsons terrorized Deshaun Watson all afternoon. The Cowboys’ defense racked up 6 sacks and 2 INTS. Deshaun Watson is in the gutter right now, he looks terrible and Cleveland fans are wishing they kept Mayfield.
11. Buccaneers 37, Commanders 20
Baker Mayfield had himself a day, leading the Bucs to a convincing win over Washington. Mayfield threw four touchdown passes, and the defense kept the Commanders’ offense in check. Jayden daniels does look good though so there is hope in Washington.
12. Chargers 22 , Raiders 10
The Chargers dominated the Raiders in classic fashion. Gardner Minshew and the Raiders offence couldn't get anything going, while JK Dobbins balled out for the chargers in his comeback game. The Raiders had 3 turnovers to the Chargers 0 which created a major impact for the result.
13. Dolphins 20, Jags 17
Tua Tagovailoa and the Dolphins’ offense came out slow following Tyreeks pre game arrest. They found themselves down 17-7 against Trevor Lawrence Jaguars, but the eventual Tyreek TD came along with a hand cuff celly, firing the Dolphins up and providing them the momentum to come back and secure victory. That Miami speed is different.
14. Seahawks 26, Broncos 20
Both QBs played brutal games, obviously one was worse than the other. Bo Nix (pix) threw 2 INTs and he couldn't accurately throw the ball past 7 yards, while Geno Smith did enough to get the job done. Kenneth Walker balled out with 103 yards and a Touchdown. In order for the seahawks to win more games Walker might have to have 40-50 touches.
15. Lions 26, Rams 20
On Sunday Night Football, the Lions pulled off a gritty win over the Rams. Jared Goff outplayed Matthew Stafford in a homecoming of sorts, leading Detroit to a late-game surge to secure the W. The Lions’ defense stepped up big in crunch time, handing the Rams a tough opening week loss. Jameson Williams balled out while Amon-Ra was nowhere to be found. This Lions team is deep with weapons and I see them being a dangerous team in the future.
16. 49ers 32, Jets 19
Brock Purdy and the 49ers rolled past the Jets with ease. Jordan Mason preformed in the absence of CMC with 28 carries 147 yards and a TD. It seemed as though every play the 49ers ran on offensive was a 10-20 yard gain minium. The hyped up Jets defence looked terrible and Aaron Rodgers has some things to iron out but he did show some flashes that'll keep Jets fans of the nuse.
